Abstract
This report details the effective treatment of a 15 kg, one-year-old
crossbred canine following a natural envenomation by a Common Krait (Bungarus
caeruleus). The patient was brought to the clinic roughly one-hour
post-bite, presenting with acute distress, localized facial edema, and distinct
paired puncture wounds on the right side of the muzzle. A definitive diagnosis
of acute elapid envenomation was established via clinical evaluation and the
owner's identification of the reptile. Emergency intervention included the
immediate administration of intravenous polyvalent anti-snake venom (ASV),
alongside supportive fluid resuscitation, atropine, enrofloxacin, meloxicam,
tranexamic acid, and furosemide. The canine was monitored continuously for
secondary complications, including delayed neurotoxic effects, coagulopathy,
and acute kidney injury. The patient demonstrated significant clinical recovery
within 24 hours and was discharged with no permanent neurological or local
tissue deficits. This case highlights that rapid antivenom deployment paired
with aggressive supportive management is critical to securing a favorable
prognosis in canine elapid envenomations.
