Abstract
Entomology, the study of insects, is one of the most significant fields
of study. It is crucial to agriculture since insects pose major risks to
agricultural health and can significantly lower productivity. By including
ineffective methods that mostly rely on human judgment, which is prone to
significant errors, manually controlled pest management techniques impair pest
surveillance. However, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are bringing
about new improvements in pest management by introducing new solutions to
enhance both pest identification and treatment. This article examines how
artificial intelligence has affected computer vision systems and machine
learning techniques used in pest monitoring. It covers the benefits of
implementing automated systems, problems concerning quality and availability of
data and the potential of AI in promoting climate smart agriculture. Finally,
the work presented in this article proves that the orientation of entomology
toward using AI as an effective tool carries an important transition to
environmentally friendly approaches to pest management.
