Abstract
An extremely diversified taxonomic category includes ants. They exhibit
incredible social organization, which has allowed them to proliferate all
across the planet. They account for about 10% of the animal biomass in the
planet. By playing a significant part in plant pollination, soil bioturbation,
bioindication and the control of crop-damaging insects, ants contribute to
ecosystem services in agrosystems. Numerous researches on ant ecology have been
conducted in recent years and the attention placed on tree cropping systems has
increased the value placed on this knowledge. This review article provides a
comprehensive summary of the knowledge regarding the functional roles that ants
play in various fields, as well as the potential of various ant species to operate
as biological control agents, bioindicators agents and ecological engineers.
