Abstract
Water samples from two different locations namely, Tiruvanaikaval: Ramatheertham and Ucchipilaiyar Kovil Temple ponds were collected to study the physico-chemical and biological properties. Analysis of various samples significantly resulted in varied reports on pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Hardness, Chloride, Sodium, and Potassium. The investigation showed that the both temple ponds were polluted due to anthropogenic activities. Thiruvanaikaval's water quality index values: Rama theertham was of poor quality (45-64) while Ucchipilaiyar Kovil temple pool water was of medium quality (50-69). Therefore, it is informed that the temple pond water cannot be used directly for drinking (as theertham) and that it requires prior treatment.
